From 1 paise lost to $2.5 billion? Vijay Mallya's late 90s interview

India suspended Kingfisher Airlines Ltd license today.

Kingfisher has left $2.5 billion in debt to employees, banks, airports, lessors etc.

In this interview, Rendezvous with Simi Garewal, some 14 years back Vijay Mallya recalled how he was scolded by his father when he couldn't find a 1 paise coin (comparable to 1 cent) . Since then he has learnt record keeping.

We will have to see how record keeping pans out over the coming days, weeks and years for Kingfisher Airlines. Will Mallya's generosity play or economics?  Remains to be seen.

  3. With his penchant of denuding both, the exchequer & the employees, he certainly makes the cut of sitting in our present parliament. His assets should be attached & sold & proceeds utilized to pay the employees & the creditors.........who may stand to collect 10 cents on the dollar owed!
